ATRA Bids Farewell to Louise Jordan

Friday, January 4, 2008 marks Louise Jordan's last day with ATRA. Louise has served as the ATRA Membership Services Director for the last year and has contributed significantly to streamlining membership processes and improving membership communication. Thank you, Louise for all you have done. You will be missed!

ATRA Newsletter

As you know, the ATRA newsletter is now being done online instead of hard copies being mailed to the members. The newsletter test for CEUs will need to be printed, completed and mailed to us along with a check as always. Although we would like for our members to be able to take the test and submit it on-line, at this time we are unable to do that. So please do not forget to mail those tests into our office for the CEUs.

California Fires

ATRA wants to express our concern and sympathy for the victims of the Southern California wildfires. Our thoughts are with those whose lives are affected by this disaster.

If you have lost your transcripts due to these fires, please contact the ATRA office by October 31, 2008 and we will provide complimentary replacements of these for you.

In addition if you are interested in helping those impacted by the wildfires, you can contact the American Red Cross or check out the California Volunteers website at http://www.californiavolunteers.org/.

Newsletter Postcard Correction

The ATRA Newsletter is available at www.atra-tr.org/members/newsletter.htm. The postcard that was sent out to ATRA members erroneously listed it at an html address. What a difference one letter makes!

Calculating CEU Credit

Many members have the misconception that when NCTRC reguires 50 hours over 5 years for recertification, that means that they need 50 CEUs. That is not the case. CEU's are calculated as follows: 1 contact/classroom hour = .1 CEU, 10 contact/classroom hours = 1.0 CEUs.

CEU's are expressed in a tenth of a unit. CEUs are not expressed past the tenth place, and are, therefore, rounded to the nearest tenth. The total number of contact hours is calculated by the total number of education minutes divided by 60 minutes. From here, the above calculations are used to convert the minutes to CEUs.

Therefore, when NCTRC requires 50 hours over 5 years, the calcuation is 50 hours = 5.0 CEUs.
